FIRE EXTINGUISHER SERVICING

BS 5306-3:2003 requires that all types of
fire extinguisher must have an annual service
carried out by a competent person every year.

The intervals should be taken from the date of installation or the last service.

The intervals may be shortened on the recommendation of the competent person where inspection reveals environmental and/or special hazards, or at the request of the user.

A certificate of conformity/service will be supplied for all extinguishers that pass their annual service.

If we find that any of your extinguishers require remedial work or are due to be discharge tested, we will advise you before any work is carried out. Written quotations will be supplied as required.

FIRE EXTINGUISHER DISCHARGE TESTING

BS 5306-3:2003 recommends that all extinguishers be test discharged at intervals not exceeding those given below.

The discharge intervals should be taken from the date of installation, except CO2 extinguishers, which should be calculated from the date of manufacture or the last test discharge. The test discharge is designed to ensure that the extinguisher works within defined parameters and can, therefore, only be of any use if carried out by a competent person.

Every Five Years

Water (all types)
Foam (all types)
Powder (gas cartridge types)
Powder (stored pressure valve-operated types)

Every Ten Years

Powder (primary sealed types)
Carbon Dioxide (all types)

CO2 extinguishers must be hydraulic/stretch tested and therefore must be returned to the manufacturer. In this case, a service exchange unit will be supplied.
